Dr. Myint is the director of the Hematology Malignancies and Blood and Marrow Transplant Program.

Myint is a member of several professional societies, including American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, British Society for Haematology, American Society of Blood and Marrow Transplantation. He is also a member of the Leukemia Research Foundation’s Medical Grants Review Committee and a member of the board of directors of Rocky Mountain Chapter the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Myint came to the University of Colorado Cancer Center from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, where he was the director of the Stem Cell Transplant Center and the Hematology and Oncology Fellowship Program. He received his undergraduate and some of his graduate training in Burma, and completed his medicine residency at the University Science Malaysia, Malaysia, and Royal Infirmary Glasgow, Glasgow, and completed his hematology and bone marrow transplant training in Glasgow and University of Southampton, England. He is board certified in internal medicine and hematology in the United Kingdom and European Union.

His clinical interests are in all aspects of hematological malignancies, in particular leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and all aspects of blood and marrow transplantation including matched sibling donor, matched unrelated donor and cord blood transplantation. His research interests include developing autologous tumor vaccines for blood cancers that can be used to protect against recurrence. In addition, he maintains a strong interest in training and postgraduate education. He enjoys teaching medical students, residents and fellows and sharing knowledge with his colleagues. He aims to intensify relationships among researchers and clinicians at the University of Colorado Cancer Center to expand translational research from "bench to clinic" in blood and marrow transplantation.

Choon-Kee Lee, M.D.
Choon-Kim Lee, M.D. Specialty: Medical Oncology, Hematology
Faculty Appointment: Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Colorado School of Medicine

Dr Lee joined the faculty at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center in 2006 as the Director of the Myeloma Program.

Dr. Lee has outstanding expertise in the care of patients with myeloma through his extensive experiences at the Myeloma Institute for Research and Therapy in Little Rock as clinical investigator between 2001 and 2005. He served as Director of the Allogeneic Transplant Program at the Institute responsible not only for those with myeloma, but also for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and aplastic anemia. His scholarly contributions to the understanding of the various aspects of myeloma and transplant, while at the Myeloma Institute, have been exceptional and well known.

Dr. Lee completed his medical degree and a residency in Internal Medicine in Korea. He then went to the University of Iowa for a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology. His academic career began at the Blood and Marrow Transplant Program of the University of Iowa in 1992, focusing on treatment of complications (Graft versus Host disease) following allogeneic transplantation. Before joining our Program, he was in charge of transplant care of patients with myeloma and related disorders as Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan. He is board certified in internal medicine, and both hematology and oncology.

Brian L. Abbott, M.D.
Brian L. Abbott, M.D. Specialty: Medical Oncology, Hematology

Dr. Abbott is the clinical director of the leukemia/lymphoma program at the University of Colorado Cancer Center, and is also a member of the hematopoietic transplantation teams at the University of Colorado Hospital and The Children’s Hospital. He is the primary investigator on a number of cooperative group and industry-sponsored trials covering the spectrum of hematologic malignancies. His career emphasis is the development of a hematologic malignancies phase one program as well as focused clinics for cutaneous lymphoma and adolescent/young adult cancer. He has organized a weekly leukemia/lymphoma conference that is regularly attended by hematologic malignancy specialists from Medical Oncology, Blood and Marrow Transplantation, Radiation Oncology, Dermatology, Pharmacy, Nuclear Medicine, and Pathology. This conference offers thorough multi-disciplinary second opinions for the entire spectrum of hematologic malignancies for patients throughout the Rocky Mountain region. He has a strong interest in teaching and has attracted trainees from the pre-med to the fellowship level at CU to participate in his clinics. His other teaching interests include the biology and ethics of stem cell research, which he taught starting in 2005 as part of the new Molecules to Medicine curriculum within the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Prior to his arrival in Colorado in early 2005, he worked at Big Sky Oncology in Great Falls, Montana and in the Kansas City Cancer Center BMT Program in Kansas City, Missouri. Since 2000, Abbott has served on the medical staff at Camp Make-A-Dream, a young adult cancer survivor conference in Gold Creek, Montana.
